For best results when testing silver, first scratch the object on a test stone. Then, create a parallel scratch with the needle marked .999. Afterwards, drop silver testing solution on both lines and observe the reaction.
Fine silver (.999) should turn bright red, .925 silver will turn dark red, .800 silver will turn brown, and .500 silver will turn green.
